Still getting fitter.

Still not getting faster.

The problem named:

fitter every year and no faster

You’re in the water three or four times a week. You do the sets. Your aerobic base is fine. And your race time has been within half a second of the same time for four seasons.

That isn’t a fitness problem. Speed is a skill problem, a power problem, and a race execution problem - and almost nothing written for adult swimmers addresses any of the three. Most masters programmes are endurance programmes with a sprint set bolted on the end.

I coach what’s missing.

What changes when we work together?

Your mechanics

Underwater video reviewed properly, with three prioritised fixes instead of twelve cues. Butterfly timing and the second kick. Breakouts that don’t cost you a meter. Turns that accelerate rather than reset you.

Your Racing

A plan for targeting your goal meet, not just for the training. Where to hurt in a 100. How to warm up when the pool is packed and the heat sheet is running late. A taper that works around a job.

Your Power

Land training built for your joints and personal recovery, not a generic training programme handed over an app. Speed that survives a full season instead of peaking early.

Why me?

i’M NOT COACHING FROM MEMORY. i’M STILL RACING

I am a Commonwealth Games silver medalist, a 7x national short-course champion, and swam 49.94 for the 100m fly (the third fastest time in British history) when I was 26 years old. Even now, at 28, I am still chasing records and finding ways to improve.

But those aren’t the reason I think I can help you.

I understand what it’s like to train and compete around work, family, and limited time. I also understand that your training has to change as your body changes. Recovery matters more. The things you could get away with in your early 20s don’t necessarily work forever.

More isn’t always better.

A programme designed for a 19-year old shouldn’t simply be handed to anyone and be expected to work in the same way. The challenge is figuring out what actually reduces the time on the clock, and what just leaves you exhausted or, in the worst case, at risk of injury.

You don’t need to train like a professional swimmer.

You need a coach who understands how to make your training work for the life and body you actually have.

  • “I've been working remotely with Jamie for a few months now and I did not think I could ever be trained and challenged this well from so far away, across the pond in Canada. Between my periodic stroke analysis check-ins, weekly programme updates and ongoing support on WhatsApp, I have a renewed sense of direction and focus in my solo training. Everything I do in the water or the gym plays into short and long-term goals I'd otherwise struggle to programme on my own, and I've already seen improvement in a few short months. ”

  • “Jamie is a perfect mentor for Finn. Not only is he beyond credible for his personal level of swim achievement which is spectacular and ongoing, but he is intelligent, academically successful and an all round pleasant and articulate person. You couldn't wish for your son to be mentored by a more rounded person. He has provided Finn confidence and insights. He is excited about his swimming and contextualises his performances much better already. I think there is a lot more to come from this relationship. Thanks Jamie. ”

Finn’s dad Chris, mentoring programme, UK

  • “Great breakdown of all splits, allowing me to understand where I was losing speed in my races.”

    Matt, race analysis client, UK

  • “This was a fantastic analysis. There's a lot of new ideas in there that will be fun to work on. The countdown idea for kick acceleration in particular is very interesting.“
