mentoring

You’ve got a coach. You’ve got a squad.

what you haven’t got is everything else.

Success in the pool starts outside of it.

Success in the water isn’t just about training sessions. It’s shaped by the choices you make every day.

I didn’t make my first international team until I was 24, and that journey taught me something invaluable: performance improves when every area of life is optimised.

Nutrition, sleep, recovery, strength, mobility, mindset.

These have all played a huge role in transforming my racing, far more than adding extra lengths to my sessions ever did.

Mentoring is for swimmers who don’t need a programme written.

You’ve got a coach you trust and sessions you turn up to. What you don’t have is anyone helping with the lifestyle and habits created outside of the water that might be holding you back. I never work over the top of another coach. Your coach runs your training. I help with everything around it, and if it’s useful, I’ll talk to them directly.

Two kinds of swimmers use this

For Masters Swimmers In a club

You train with a masters squad 3-4 times a week. The sessions are decent, the company is good, and you have no intention of leaving. But the squad training is written for 25 people at once, and nobody in the pool is thinking specifically about your 100m fly in April.

So the questions pile up and nobody answers them. How do I taper around a full-time job? What do I actually eat before an evening heat? My shoulder hurts on Thursdays- is that a problem or just Thursday? Should I be doing weights, and if so, what? I’ve got three races over two days and no idea how to warm up for the second one.

Sound familiar?

That’s what mentoring is for. Not a programme. Someone in your corner who has done this at the highest level, who is still doing it, and will answer the questions the same day you ask it.

What we work on

Race plans for your specific events, warm-up and warm-down protocols that fit the meets you actually attend, and a pre-race check-in before every one.

Racing.

How to arrive sharp at a Saturday championship when you work Monday to Friday. This is what most masters swimmers struggle with, and it can make a big impact on your race performance.

Tapering around your lifestyle.

Your body recovers differently as you age, but have you taken steps to support it? I can advise you on the recovery your body needs, and how to help fit it into your busy life.

Recovery and sleep.

Practical, sustainable, and can be built around your lifestyle, whether that’s you usually have meals alone, or need to consider how to get the nutrition you need around meals with your partner or family.

Nutrition.

What to do in the gym, what to leave, and how to look after your joints. If you would like a full gym programme rather than guidance, then please have a look at the coaching page.

Land work and mobility.

Whether you’re new to masters swimming, returning after a break, or looking to improve, developing a strong mindset can make a big difference to your performance and can be transferred to everyday life.

Mindset.

Making your club sessions work harder.

Often the highest value thing was can do to improve. You can’t change what the set is, but you can change what you’re paying attention to while you swim it.

Personalised feedback to refine your strokes and improve efficiency. A filming guide can be provided if you need.

Free video technique analysis.

Up to two full race analyses per month from the video race analysis package (learn more about race analysis here).

Race analysis.

What it isn’t

I won’t write your training. If your club sessions aren’t serving your events (e.g. too much aerobic work when you’re a 50m sprinter, no speed work at all, nothing that resembles race pace), then mentoring will only get you so far. In that case, coaching is the correct next step.

How it works

£60/month

Unlimited WhatsApp support, regular scheduled calls, and priority access to in-person sessions and clinics where geography allows.

Month to month. Cancel anytime.

For junior Swimmers

Are you ready to take your swimming to the next level?

As your mentor, I’ll help you uncover what’s holding you back and build the habits that support faster, stronger, more confident swimming. Whether you’re aiming for national qualification, or chasing personal bests, the approach is built around your goals and your life.

Parents welcome

Parents/guardians are encouraged to be involved throughout. You’ll know what we’re working on and why, and you’re welcome on calls. Most of the parents I work with want to help their swimmer but aren’t sure how. A large part of the value here, is helping to answer the questions you have and help you understand the best ways to support your swimmer.
